Palenque is located in the southern part of Mexico, in the State of Chiapas, about 270 km from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, 200 km from San Cristóbal de las Casas, and 202 km from Comitán de Domínguez.

Palenque Archaeological Site

At the Palenque Archaeological Site, you can visit the Temple of the Inscriptions, the most significant structure due to its historical importance. It houses the most notable inscriptions of the Maya ruins and the tomb of King Pakal.
Another major highlight is known as The Palace, the largest and most beautiful construction in Palenque, featuring a four-sided tower. Other important sites include the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Red Queen, and the Temple of the Foliated Cross.
Places to Visit in Palenque
Toniná Archaeological Zone
The Toniná Mayan ruins are located 110 km from Palenque and 10 km from Ocosingo. Although the road is not in excellent condition, the journey is an adventure and passes through beautiful landscapes. In the Toniná Archaeological Zone, you can visit various structures such as the Great Pyramid, the Temple of the Smoky Mirror, and the Temple of the Prisoners (these are the tallest temples in Mesoamerica).
Misol-Há Waterfall
The Misol-Há Waterfall is a water drop of more than 20 meters high, surrounded by dense vegetation, ideal for swimming. It is located 18 km from Palenque.
Bonampak Archaeological Zone
Bonampak is an archaeological site located in the heart of the Lacandon Jungle, 220 km away from Palenque. The area boasts beautiful landscapes and is perfect for those who enjoy adventure. The archaeological site is renowned for its murals.
Agua Azul Waterfalls
The Agua Azul Waterfalls are formed by the Tulijá, Otulún, and Shumuljá rivers. It is a place declared a natural reserve and features stunning beauty. It is located 60 km from Palenque.
Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve
A vast forested area protected by the government and declared a Biosphere Reserve. It is significant for its great biodiversity. Hundreds of species of birds, trees of all sizes, monkeys, and jaguars inhabit the area. Several travel agencies organize tours from Palenque.
