How to Get to Teotihuacan

Teotihuacan, from the Nahuatl language, means “City of the Gods.” It was an important urban center where over 200,000 people lived. Its peak of development occurred between the 3rd and 7th centuries AD.

The archaeological complex includes museums, which are highly recommended as an introduction to the pyramid tour.

The most notable places within the site are the Avenue of the Dead, the Citadel, the Feathered Serpent Pyramid, the Palace of Quetzalpapálotl, and the Sun and Moon pyramids.

Teotihuacan was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987 and is currently one of the most visited locations in Mexico.

Recommendations

For your visit to Teotihuacan, it is recommended to arrive early in the morning before the organized tours begin to arrive. To avoid large crowds, it is best to avoid visiting the pyramids on Sundays.

The area is vast, and you will do a lot of walking, so it’s recommended to wear comfortable shoes, bring water, a hat, and sunscreen.

Be cautious when climbing the pyramids as the steps can be steep, and hold children’s hands while in these areas.
